We operate under the simple, infuriating premise that a system costing billions, leading the world in imprisonment, and routinely devastating communities is, quite simply, a failure.
We peel back the layers on everything from the seemingly mundane (like supervised release) to the foundational (like plea bargains and sentencing commissions), asking the uncomfortable question: Is this legal? And if it is, is it just?

But also expect RESPECT. Respect to the judges, juries, probation officers, various law enforcement, and other officials who are part of this system. For although, as bad as it can be, it is still one of the best in the world and 99% of those who serve in these capacities are doing the right thing most of the time within the system they operate. So I WILL NOT denigrate them here.
